About The Velvet Hanger
As a husband & wife team, Vahan and Alice, have more than 38 years of experience in the business of re-weaving, dress making, custom tailoring, and alterations. The Velvet Hanger has been located in Newport Beach since 1979.
Vahan specializes in "Invisible" French weaving and other garment repair techniques. He can repair virtually every type of (better) known garments. People often bring him garments with cigarette holes, moth holes, tears, and other damage, and he can usually repair them to be like new. In fact, most people cannot find the repair once he has rewoven it! He regularly repairs Chanel, St. John Knits, Armani, Hugo Boss, Etc., garments and cloth accessories from walk-in customers as well as department and company owned stores selling the finer garments as a service to their customers. Vahan can also repair most other fabrics found on furniture and upholstery.
Alice Specializes in professional tailoring and
custom dressmaking. She can alter or create from scratch virtually any
kind of clothing from day wear to evening wear. She also specializes in
the custom alterations of wedding gowns, knits, leather, and furs.
